She also works as a mom for 98 hours a week. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When we think of burnout, we often picture stressed out workers at their hectic office jobs. We rarely think about parents. And with the stats on how busy and involved parents are, it\u2019s no wonder that so many parents are feeling worn down. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-care is hard to practice when your whole world revolves around the care of your children. For that reason, our child care center has compiled a list of things that you can (and must) do as a parent. Try out some of these tips, and visit one of the Growing Kids Learning Centers in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/west-bristol-street\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elkhart<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/valparaiso-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Valparaiso<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, South Bend (at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/ireland-road\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ireland Road<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/state-road-23\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State Road 23<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/north-bendix-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">North Bendix Drive<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/chesterton-child-care-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chesterton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/goshen-child-care-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goshen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/warsaw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warsaw<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/plymouth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plymouth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/bristol-elementary-child-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bristol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> today.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make Time for Yourself<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all complain that there\u2019s not enough time, but that\u2019s not really the problem (although, our child care center will be the first to say that parents have very little free time, if any!). It\u2019s what we\u2019re doing with the time that makes the biggest difference, and how we manage our energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s far easier to scroll through social media without intention than to sit down and do something that will truly make you feel better. When you purposefully make an effort to do an activity that brings you true joy, such as reading or playing an instrument, you\u2019ll feel exponentially more fulfilled and refreshed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, spending time on social media isn\u2019t a bad thing, and it can be a great source of connection. But more often than not, we end up mindlessly scrolling through news feeds and consciously or subconsciously comparing ourselves to others. If you catch yourself feeling this way while browsing Facebook or the like, it\u2019s a sign to switch to something more restorative.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cut Out Obligations<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether it\u2019s carpooling for your child\u2019s fourth after school activity or a work meeting that could absolutely be resolved in a weekly email, there\u2019s something in all of our lives that we don\u2019t want to do. The good news is that we have the ability to cut some of these things out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you feel like there\u2019s no time in your week or if there\u2019s a commitment in particular that\u2019s causing you anxiety, it\u2019s OK to figure out a way to cut it out. Even if you\u2019re just cutting back instead of eliminating entirely, you\u2019ll feel so much relief from not having to do something you don\u2019t want to. Saying no is definitely a form of self-care!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Journal Consistently<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At our child care centers, we talk about expressing our feelings all the time. Journaling is one of the best ways to do so, and to feel better as a whole. Reflect on what\u2019s working in your life and what\u2019s not, what you\u2019re grateful for and what you\u2019re struggling with, and show yourself compassion through writing. Journaling is one of the best ways to help yourself process things, and it\u2019s amazing to look back on where you\u2019ve been and how far you\u2019ve come by keeping a consistent, written record.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Savor the Small Things<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So often we take for granted the most basic things that make up the fabric of our day-to-day lives. Hot, running water in the shower (even hot water for doing dishes shouldn\u2019t be dismissed!), walks on the sidewalk, our children learning a new skill, or even just the fact that your coffeemaker is brewing in the morning are all pretty ordinary things on the surface. But when you take time to truly savor how incredible each thing is, you\u2019ll feel more grounded and grateful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose one thing to focus on each day, and focus on the nuances and details that make this task or activity so special.<a href=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/contact-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"no-wp-caption aligncenter wp-image-4451 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/growingkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/help-your-child-cta-5b77075331630.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"562\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talk With Loved Ones<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your child was struggling, wouldn\u2019t you want them to talk to you about it? Our loved ones are here to support us, just as we are here to support them. You are not alone in the struggles of parenthood \u2014 everyone has a tough time, because parenting is ridiculously tough!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you feel overwhelmed, reach out to a loved one and share what\u2019s going on. If you feel like you keep having the same struggles and you\u2019re saying the same things, consider reaching out to a therapist for some additional great insights.
