Halloween is a fun holiday for many people, especially children since they get to collect a ton of candy and dress up as something else. However, this year’s pandemic will likely put a stop to trick-or-treating, which may lead to a few tantrums.

Don’t worry! Growing Kids Learning Centers has your back. We know how much kids love holidays, especially when they get a bag full of candy at the end of it. We came up with some unique, fun, and safe activities you can do with your kiddos in order to celebrate Halloween! While your children may still be bummed about not going trick-or-treating, you can still help them have a good time and celebrate in a unique way.

In this blog, we are going to go over some ideas to help parents avoid the trick-or-treating meltdown. Read on for some fun ideas that you can do with your kiddos this Halloween!

Indoor Trick-or-Treating

Just because you can’t go house to house trick-or-treating doesn’t mean your kiddos can’t go room to room! Decorate the doors in your home with fun Halloween decorations. Add fake spider webs, pumpkins, and anything else to give your doors a fun and spooky look. Have your kiddo go from door to door trick-or-treating in your own home! To make this even more fun, invite family friends over. The adults and older kids can all have their own door and the little kids can trick-or-treat at each one! This is a fun way for your child to still be able to do this fun Halloween activity while staying safe.

Costume Fashion Show

Costumes are another big reason why kiddos love Halloween. Who doesn’t love dressing up like someone or something else? Let your child pick out a costume this year even though the celebration will likely look different. Instead of them wearing this costume during trick-or-treating (although they can still wear it while indoor trick-or-treating), do a costume fashion show! You can even have them dress up in some of their play dress-up clothing to put on a real fashion show and show off a few costumes before revealing their new costume for this year! Parents and older children are welcome and encouraged to participate but anyone who doesn’t want to participate can be the judge of the fashion show, and the reward can obviously be more candy!

Bake Halloween Themed Goodies

Baking is another fun way to celebrate this spooky holiday with your children. There are so many unique and fun things you can make that your kiddos will absolutely love. Plus, baking is an extremely beneficial activity for your children and can help them develop their math skills, learn how to follow directions, teaches them patience, and so much more. Whether you make Rice Krispie treats with orange food coloring to make little pumpkins or you make white chocolate covered fruit and turn them into ghosts, there are many great Halloween themed baked goods and treats that you can make with your kiddo! You can find a ton of spooky recipes to try just by searching online. You could even let each of your children pick their favorite and make them all!

Do The Monster Mash

Dance with your kiddos to Halloween themed songs like the Monster Mash. Create a playlist of kid-friendly spooky songs and put them on to have a dance party. This can be fun to listen to while baking your spooky treat or while doing some crafts! Making a playlist with these Halloween songs can be a fun way for you and your children to enjoy the Halloween season.

Jack O’Lanterns and Pumpkin Painting

Going to a pumpkin patch is a fun Halloween tradition for many families. Bring your kiddos to a pumpkin patch to have them pick out a pumpkin to decorate at home. Whether you make Jack o’lanterns out of them or paint them, this is an easy way to enjoy some Halloween festivities. Carving pumpkins is a fun tradition, but if your children are younger, painting them is a great alternative. You can have them paint faces on them to keep the Jack o’lantern look or you can let them paint them with a unique design or color. Then you can display these pumpkins in the front of your house!

Try Some Halloween Crafts

Crafting is one activity that children love no matter what season it is! Doing fun Halloween crafts can make celebrating this spooky season even more exciting. Just like the Halloween baked treats, there are a ton of spooky crafts that you and your kiddos to make, from cotton ball ghosts to toilet paper roll monsters. Make a variety of Halloween crafts and decorate your home with them! Your kids will love doing these spooky crafts with you and can help you all celebrate the spooky holiday.

Even if you don’t get to bring your kiddos trick-or-treating this year, there are still so many fun ways to celebrate Halloween. Make this year extra special by trying all of these activities with your kiddos. We know they will love it!

At Growing Kids Learning Centers, we offer a variety of programs that can help your children develop new skills, learn, and grow! Be sure to check out our programs today and contact us with any questions you may have.

Even though many schools have already started back up, whether in person or virtually, there are still, hopefully, a few more weeks left of warm, summer weather. If you haven’t already, spend some time this weekend doing some fun activities with your kiddos to end summer the right way.

At Growing Kids Learning Centers, we know how hectic life can get and how special family time is. We encourage you to spend some time with your children to celebrate summer and enjoy some family time. Our schools are open and we are taking certain safety measures to help keep your kiddos healthy during this time. To learn more, be sure to check out our COVID safety measures and contact us with any questions you may have. Read on for some fun activity ideas to end summer!

Play With Water

Kids love playing with water and there is only so much time left in the year to do so. Whether you have a water balloon fight, run through the sprinklers, or take a day trip to Lake Michigan, your child will love one last day of water-filled fun before the weather gets too chilly. A day trip to Lake Michigan can be a fun way to spend a day with the family. You can pack a picnic, bring some toys and games to play if they get tired of swimming, and enjoy a day outside with your little ones. Before the weather starts dropping, ask your children what fun water activity they want to do, and make it happen!

Bike For a Treat

Riding your bikes to get ice cream is a great way to spend a beautiful, warm day. Riding bikes and eating ice cream are two things you will likely not be doing soon, so better add those to the list of activities to do before summer ends! While your children may not enjoy riding their bikes for too long, they will certainly enjoy the sweet treat at the end of the ride. Find a nearby ice cream shop to bike to and enjoy a little treat before biking home. This will be a full day activity that can become a fun family tradition. If you don’t have an ice cream shop nearby, drive to one and walk around the town while you eat it. Or bring your bikes with and find a nearby bike path or park to ride around. Just remember to bring your masks!

Have a Picnic

Picnics may seem like a lot of work, but kiddos really love the idea of eating outside on the ground. There is so much simple joy in a picnic and it can be a great way to bond as a family. Pack a lunch, picnic blanket, some outdoor games and toys, and head to a park or a field. Don’t rush it, spend a few hours enjoying the sun, grass, and time with the family. This is also a great time for you to disconnect and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Leave your phone in the car or mute your notifications so you aren’t tempted to check your work email. Trust us, your kids will be grateful for your full attention.

Play Outside

Another simple joy that children love is playing outside. This could include a variety of different activities. From kicking a soccer ball back and forth to playing pretend in the backyard to playing a game of tag, there are so many activities that you can do with your kiddos. If your children can decide on one thing to play, do it all! Let each child pick one thing to play and spend an hour or so playing each, or save something for the next day. Your kids will love it when you join in and play with them. Playing outside is a simple way to stay entertained, enjoy the great outdoors, and spend the last few weeks of warm weather.

Watch the Stars

While this may break their bedtime schedule for a day, it will be worth it. Drive out to a more secluded area and enjoy the sight of the stars for a while. Watching the stars can stimulate your child’s imagination and boost their creativity. Plus, it is a great way to help them appreciate nature and the world around them. Bring some blankets, snacks, and a telescope if you have one, and head out into the dark night to enjoy the sparkling stars. If you make this a tradition, it will become a memory that your child will love and cherish for the rest of their lives. To keep them even more interested, print out some fun star facts or download a night sky app that shows you constellations, and teach them something fun about space and the night sky.

There are so many fun activities that you and your kiddos can try that will help your end summer the right way. Be sure to do at least one of these activities before the weather gets too cold. But we encourage you to do them all. We know your children will love them, but you may even gain something for these activities as well!

If you are looking for a great early childhood learning center, be sure to check out Growing Kids Learning Centers. We have locations in South Bend, Elkhart, Valparaiso, Goshen, Chesterton, Plymouth, and Warsaw! Contact us today with any questions and enjoy the rest of summer with your kiddos!

Emotions can be difficult to deal with and identify for children and adults. Some adults struggle with expressing their emotions in the best way and being okay with the emotions they may be feeling, which is why it is important to teach children how to identify and handle their emotions while they are young.

When you put a focus on emotions and don’t make them something that are frowned upon to speak of, your child will feel more comfortable facing their emotions and learn how to handle them in the best way possible. Most people don’t have the innate ability to identify their emotions and how to control and handle them, which is why this is something you have to teach.

At Growing Kids Learn Centers, we know how important the early years of your child’s life are and how much they can develop during this time. The first few years of your child’s life are when they develop a variety of skills, including physical and cognitive skills. During this time, teaching your child about emotions can help them be more comfortable confronting their emotions as adults.

In this blog, we are going to give you some tips for teaching your child about emotions. Read on to learn more and be sure to check out our child care programs today!

Label Their Feelings

One of the best ways for your child to begin learning about emotions is to start labeling them when you notice they are feeling a certain way. If you see your child is sad, say something like, “I see you are sad, why do you feel this way?” They will begin to connect the way they are feeling with the labels you give them and realize that their emotions can change based on what has happened.

By labeling your kiddos’ emotions, you are helping them build an emotional vocabulary that allows them to better talk about their feelings. While sometimes it can be difficult to tell what your child is feeling, you can talk them through their emotions, learn what happened to make them feel how they are currently feeling, and then label the emotion.

Label Feelings In Others

Another great way to teach your child about emotions is to talk about emotions in others. Not only can this help them learn more about their feelings, but it can also help them make the connection that other people have feelings too, which can simultaneously teach them empathy.

Whether you are reading a book, watching a movie, or walking through a grocery store, ask your child what they think people are feeling. If you are reading a book to your child and the character loses their favorite toy, ask your kiddo what emotion they think the character is feeling. Ask them how they would feel in that situation. This can teach them to put themselves in other people’s shoes, allowing them to better understand their emotions.

Talk About How They Affect Emotions

Letting your child know that their actions can affect other people’s feelings can teach them about emotions and that they can cause people to feel a certain way. Again, this teaches empathy and also helps them learn that their actions have consequences. Let’s say your child calls their sibling a name, you can say, “You hurt your brother’s feelings when you called him that name and now he is sad.”

Empathy is another important thing to teach your child when they are young, and the best time to teach them how to be empathetic is when you are teaching them about emotions. When kids realize that they can affect the way someone feels, they are more likely to be mindful of how they act toward others.

Teach How to Express Emotions

There are ways to express emotions that are okay and ways that are not okay. Kicking, screaming, and throwing a tantrum when your child is mad is not okay. Taking a moment by themselves to be mad and calm down is okay. While young children may have a hard time dealing with their emotions and knowing how to express them, as your child gets older you can teach them how to properly express their emotions.

Teaching your child to use their words to express their emotions is a great start. When your child is calm and not feeling any intense emotion, talk to them about how to express their feelings in the right way. Ask them what makes them happy or what can calm them down. They can try sitting outside when they are mad or laying on their bed and talking to their stuffed animals. When they are sad, maybe they just need a hug until they feel better. Helping your child find appropriate ways to express their emotions allows them to better handle them when they feel a certain way.

Be a Role Model

By now, you know that your children learn a lot by observing you and what you do. Be sure that you are expressing your emotions appropriately as well. While we know it can sometimes be hard to contain your anger or sadness, it is important that you do your best while your child is around. They can learn a lot about expressing emotions from you. Model the behaviors you want them to adopt.

When you are mad, go for a walk or go sit outside and decompress. Your child will learn to go somewhere to decompress rather than throwing a tantrum or taking their anger out on those around you. Again, this may be a challenge, but it can also be the best way to teach your child how to properly express themselves.

A Different Perspective

Children are used to getting physically hurt. Poor coordination and playing non-stop lead to scraped knees, scratches, and other “booboos” that most kids experience daily. Kiddos learn how to handle physical pain or feelings. If they get a scrape on their knee, they accept that it is there and ask for a bandaid to make it feel better. They are not ashamed of getting hurt or asking for what they need to feel better. They are not embarrassed that they feel physical pain and they know they need to address it for it to feel better.

Teaching your child to do the same thing with their feelings can help them feel more comfortable dealing with their emotions. Teach them to accept the way they feel, learn how to deal with it, and not feel ashamed for asking for what they need to feel better. This will be extremely beneficial when your child gets older. Our culture often teaches us to hide our feelings and that we should be ashamed of feeling certain things, which is unhealthy. Teaching your child to treat their emotional pain as they would physical pain can help them feel more comfortable with their emotions.

Praise Them

Praise your child when they express their emotions in a positive way. Praise them when they use their words to tell you how they are feeling. Praise them when they tell you what they need to feel better. By praising your child when they can express their emotions appropriately and handle them properly, you can reinforce this good behavior. Let them know that you are proud of them for having self-control and expressing their emotions in a mature way.

It is best to be specific. If your child tells their sibling that they were mad that their sibling stole their toy, be sure to say something like, “I’m proud of you for telling your brother that what he did made you mad without yelling or hitting. That was mature of you.” This praise will help them learn how to handle their emotions now and as they grow older.

By following these tips, you can help your child learn about emotions and how to handle them. This is an important lesson for young kiddos to learn that will benefit them throughout their later years of life. Start working with your child on their emotions and be sure to check our Growing Kids Learning Centers today!

Life can get busy, quickly. From having to juggle work, chores, your kid’s activities, and everything else that you have going on in your life, it can be difficult to find any free time. And the free time you do have often goes to enjoying some quiet time alone. While we understand that you need to enjoy every second of free time you have, you could also put a few minutes of that time to great use simply by reading to your kiddos.

While reading to your children every night may seem like the last thing you want to do, especially when you finally have some time to yourself, there are so many benefits that come from this simple activity. Plus, it only takes a few minutes a night.

At Growing Kids Learning Centers in Northern Indiana, we understand the importance of reading and help our students develop their reading skills, preparing them for kindergarten and the rest of their school years. We have learning centers all over Northern Indiana, allowing you to find the location closest to you. We have locations in Elkhart, Valparaiso, Goshen, Chesterton, Plymouth, Warsaw, and four in South Bend.

In this blog, we wanted to talk about the benefits that reading to your children can provide. Read on to learn more and start making time to read to your kids today!

Builds a Bond

Reading to your children is a great way to spend quality time with them. This is an activity that allows you to bond with your child, and can become a special part of their routine. They will feel closer to you and view this time together as something special. Your child simply wants to spend time with you where they have your full attention. Reading to them every night can be that special time you share together without any distractions. This is something that your kiddos will cherish for the rest of their lives.

Improves Literacy Skills

Reading out loud to your child can help them develop better literacy skills. They will learn that you read from left to right, they will learn the sounds of different letters, begin to understand the meaning of different words, and that words put together have meaning. Even if your child is just learning the alphabet or figuring out how to read, reading to them can help improve these skills and teach them more about language.

Exposure to Language

If you start reading to your child when they are too young to speak, it can help expose them to language and allow them to begin to develop these skills. When you expose your child to language at a young age, they will begin to develop these language skills earlier and have an easier time when learning how to communicate. Reading to them, talking to them, and hearing you talk to others are all great ways to expose your child to language.

Promotes Longer Attention Span

When you read to your children, they are focused on the story and generally will pay attention from start to finish (we know that sometimes nothing will keep your child’s attention). This activity can actually promote a longer attention span and help children learn how to concentrate for longer periods of time. This will become an important skill when your child has to sit through school and other classes.

Stimulates Imagination

Reading stories allows children to start thinking more creatively and helps stimulate their imagination. When hearing stories about different characters, marvelous creatures, far away places, and stuff that can only happen in the imagination, your child will begin to imagine these things as well. Not only does reading help show your child that there is no limit to creativity, but it also helps them create pictures in their heads of the words you are reading, which helps them imagine what everything looks like, how the characters feel, and so much more.

Gives Different Perspectives

There are so many books about so many different topics. Reading to your child allows them to learn more about the world around them, different cultures, places, people, and gives them a different perspective. They will learn that the world is so much bigger than they can imagine and the stories you read will allow them to understand different perspectives. Learning about other people, places, and events gives your child a look at something outside their own experience, which can help them develop empathy.

Exercises The Brain

Reading not only strengthens brain connections, but it also helps build new ones. An article from Raise Smart Kid mentions that children who are exposed to reading at home show significantly more brain activation in an area that involves multisensory integration. When you read to your kids, you can help them build new brain networks that will help them when transitioning to reading themselves.

There are many benefits that come from reading to your children. These are only a few of the main benefits and reasons why you should read to your kiddos regularly. Not only will they excel academically, but you can build a better bond with them by simply reading to them. This is a simple task that takes a few minutes a day and allows them to develop great memories with you and many other skills.

Start reading to your children regularly and be sure to enroll them in a child care center that can help them learn how to read among many other things! Growing Kids Learning Centers in Northern Indiana is a great option, with 10 locations to choose from and a variety of programs. Contact us today to learn more about our learning center!

They’ve made the list, you’re checking it twice, you already know when they’ve been naughty (and when they’ve been nice). So much of the holidays revolves around shopping and presents, and for kids, so much of the season revolves around toys.

Even if your children are too young to make their own list for Santa, you already know they’re going to get one metric ton of toys. Grandparents and aunts and uncles are going to bring all the presents, most of which will likely start collecting dust before New Year’s. If you’re feeling overwhelmed about the amount of stuff, if you don’t want money spent on toys that you know your child will quickly forget about, you’re not alone.

At Growing Kids Learning Centers, we think you can go without all that “stuff” and still have an amazing experience with the ones you love. If you’re looking for a gift idea list that doesn’t involve the toy aisle at Target in December, we’ve got you covered. Find holiday gift ideas that aren’t toys, and enroll your young one at one of our child care centers! With locations in Goshen, Bristol, South Bend (at Ireland Road, State Road 23, and North Bendix Drive), Elkhart, Valparaiso, and Chesterton, you never have to go far to give your kids the best in child care.

Books

Building the home library is one of the most admirable and worthwhile gifts you can give. Reading aloud to your child is one of the single most important things you can do as a parent — it makes an incredible impact on their academic and overall growth and development. Invest in some classics — your child might love reading the books that you loved as a kid! — and try out some new titles as well. “The Book With No Pictures” by B.J. Novak is a fun read, despite being exactly what you think.

Some other new titles in 2018 include “The Digger and the Flower,” “Elmore,” and “Wordy Birdy” (the last one is especially great if you have a chatty child). By finding books that teach valuable lessons and are fun to read, this is a gift that will truly keep on giving!

Arts and Crafts

Kids love working with colors and creating something new. Arts and crafts are a perfect present for every child to try! Finger paints, colored pencils, crayons and a new coloring book, jewelry making kits — the list goes on and on. Arts and crafts are a great way for your child to explore their creativity and imagination, and they might just find a new hobby in the process.

Sports-Related Gifts

Has your child just started getting into sports? Are they ready and rearing for their first soccer team that starts this spring? The holidays are a great gift-giving opportunity that can help them get their feet wet. Nerf balls, footballs, baseballs, frisbees, scooters, or bikes are all some other sports-themed gifts that your child will surely continue to love and use (especially when it gets warmer out).

Experiences

Kids usually have just a few toys that they truly love and that they remember. Experiences, however, are a gift that sticks with them, and helps shape who they are. The best thing about giving experiences as a gift is that it provides more opportunity for you to interact and connect with your young one. Plus, it doesn’t really matter what the experience is — if you hype it up, your child will be just as excited.

Mini golfing, trips to the museum, driving out of town to explore a new park or hiking trail, or even a trip to a hotel (with a pool, of course) are all things that kids will simply love. You can make it so that they still have something to unwrap by giving them a card with some picture clues, or create a scavenger hunt to help them figure out where they’re going!

Kids are what make the holidays so much fun. You want your child to have an incredible time, but you also want it to be worthwhile and meaningful. With these non-toy-related gifts, that can most certainly happen. Stay tuned for a few more ideas in our next blog, and contact Growing Kids Learning Centers to get the best in child care and preschool!

Summer is one of the best times of the year for so many reasons, but as any parent knows, it does bring a little bit of added stress. It’s amazing that your kids get seemingly unlimited amounts of free time (more on that in a minute), but that doesn’t mean you suddenly do. You’ve got to figure out some solutions to ensure your kids are cared for, and day camp is absolutely the way to do that. See some of the benefits of day camp, and sign up today with Growing Kids Learning Centers in northern Indiana! With locations in South Bend, Valparaiso, Elkhart, Goshen, Bristol, and Chesterton, you won’t have to travel far to provide an exceptional daycare experience for your child.

Your child will be taken care of.

You’ll always worry about your kids, but when they’re at school, you know that their basic needs are being met. Not only are they receiving an education, but they’re getting fed, they get to move around, and they are looked after for eight or more hours a day. When summer comes, there’s no longer a guarantee that your child will be looked after, forcing you to figure out alternative plans.

At a day camp, you can ensure that your child is receiving just as much care as when they’re in school. Knowing your young one is safe during the summer months brings a huge sigh of relief, and our day camps are an excellent way to alleviate some of the stress of summer care planning.

You can rely on consistent care.

Babysitters are amazing, there’s no denying it — but they’re also human. Sitters get sick, sitters have things come up, and even the most reliable have moments and situations where they can’t be there. For anyone who has experienced this, suddenly lacking your sitter sends you into a frenzy of trying to figure out coverage, balancing your work schedule, and everything in between.

With day camps, such as the ones at Growing Kids Learning Centers, it would take a lot for us to shut down. We have a highly-trained and supportive staff who are here to help your child get the care they need, as well as provide fun activities and structure that they’ll love.

Speaking of fun activities…

Day camps are fun!

Let’s face it, after even just a few days of being at home, kids get bored. Or they melt their brains with hours upon hours of screen time. Either way, this isn’t taking full advantage of the freedom that can come from summer, or allowing kids to partake in some of the best kinds of summer fun!

Our day camps take trips to the zoo, go strawberry picking, bowl with their friends, enjoy fun water activities, try their hand at roller-skating, and can even take swimming lessons! In fact, we take two to three field trips a week! This means that their days are going to be packed with fun activities, and provide a summer experience that they will absolutely remember.

The structure is just what they need.

In an unstructured environment, kids, at the very best, get bored easily, and at the worst, can get into hazardous situations. Children do better in structured environments, where they’re still able to practice their independence and have their own time and space, but with some limits in place.

This also makes it easier to transition back into the school year, which isn’t simply easier for your child, but easier for your family as well. The day camps at Growing Kids Learning Centers provide structure, but not in an overwhelming way that takes away from the fun of being a kid.

In our next blog, we’ll cover even more reasons that summer day camps are the perfect opportunity and solution for your family and child to try. Not only do your kids get to have an amazing time in the months after school gets out, but you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that they’re not only taken care of, but enjoying their time. We simply love getting to work with kids and see the joy they experience from having fun all summer long. Sign up for Growing Kids Learning Centers’ day camps today, and get ready to have one of the best summers possible!

Some parents have concerns about sending their child to a daycare. Once they’ve been to our facility in Chesterton, though, those fears quickly go away! That’s because they see that the children in our daycare are happy, learning, active, and engaged with each other and their teachers. It’s a great place to grow and learn while parents are off doing grown up things. What you might not realize, though, is that while our daycare is providing a safe and happy place for a child, it’s also providing some life-long benefits, too!

It can help get kids ready for school.

Daycare is the perfect place to spark a love of learning. With plenty of activities and learning opportunities, even our youngest daycare attendees have a chance to start exploring the world around them and seeking out opportunities where learning is fun.

There are more socialization opportunities.

Kids who attend daycare have a chance to socialize with children both older and younger than them. This can help them learn more about sharing, working with others, and how to make friends. Those are skills they’ll use their whole lives!

It can be good for a child’s mental health.

Some studies suggest that attending daycare can be good for a child’s mental health. That’s because a daycare provides a stable, safe environment with routine and structure. That can help kids who might not find that environment at home develop much-needed stability for later in life.

They have fewer colds later in life.

Being exposed to germs can be a good thing! It helps your child build up immunity to illnesses later on. Children who attend daycare and pass around those germs at a young age are less likely to battle them later on.

Kids learn structure and routine.

Daycare can be a place where kids learn about routine and structure to their daily lives, something that will be important both in their school lives and their career later on.

Going to preschool and kindergarten is an educationally empowering and transformative time in the development of your child. They are entering the world of schooling, something that will foster the ability to learn and grow as a student. As important as it is to develop the fundamentals of math, writing and reading, fostering the inspiration for creativity and creative development is an integral part of the process at preschool.

As a child continues to grow cognitively, creativity is immensely strong within children ages 3-6. This is a prime time to develop the structure for creative thoughts and thinking processes that can be utilized throughout their lives, both in and outside of school. Inspiring creative development can help with critical thinking, an essential and empowering skill for children to acquire. It also helps with problem solving, a stimulating and creative process that is crucial to early childhood development. Children are naturally curious, and Growing Kids likes to feed their creative side.

At Growing Kids, we teach our preschoolers and kindergartens the fundamentals of math, writing and reading to help provide a strong foundation for their future educational endeavors. We also work to stimulate all areas of development, which includes creative interactions. This is showcased in our “Main Street” center at the heart of all of our educational centers. The Main Street allows for children to engage with each other to create social relationships, as well as foster creative thoughts. This offers children the opportunity to play, pretend, create, socialize and problem-solve. This sticks to our core values of allowing students to learn on through hands-on experiences, something that the “Main Street” can provide for your child.
Growing Kids Learning Centers believes in inspiring creativity for preschoolers, and have modeled our programs to foster a creative atmosphere for our students. Contact us today to learn more!

Preschool is an exciting and important time for your child to get the fundamental skills that will serve as a foundation for them as they advance into kindergarten and elementary school. Learning occurs in the classroom, but can also be enhanced while at home. In this blog, we’re going to explore some books your child can read outside of the classroom to help enhance their fundamentals of reading and reading comprehension.

Where the Wild Things Are

This classic book is a great start to enhancing your child’s reading skills and love for literature. The story touches on creative thinking and learning to understand and accept people for their differences. This is not only great for reading skills, but also emotional development. Your kid will love the story you cherished as a child!

The Color of Us

The Color of Us is an important book to teach your child about accepting people for who they are, regardless of what they look like, and embracing who you are despite the color of your skin.. This is an introduction into an important life lesson that your child will continually reshape and utilize throughout their lives.

The Giving Tree

A classic you may recall reading as a child, The Giving Tree is a great introduction into philosophical interpretations of stories. The tree constantly gives as the boy asks for more, but the tree remains happy as giving provides the tree immense joy.

Books are the gateway to critical thought and strengthening reading skills. Though the books listed are simply just the beginning of potential stories to have your child read, introducing them to literature can enhance lessons learned in school and open up a channel for creativity. Growing Kids Learning Center serves as Northern Indiana’s child care experts, helping children build successful futures. Our dedication to your child’s education is a fundamental aspect of our programs.
